Honoring Miyoko Omori, Founder of Sakura Restaurant & Bar.

WHEREAS, Miyoko Omori has been a pioneer in bringing authentic Japanese cuisine and culture to the Twin Cities for over three decades, enriching the culinary landscape of Saint Paul, Minnesota; and

 

WHEREAS, Miyoko immigrated from Saitama, Japan, to the United States in 1970 with a vision of sharing her heritage and love for traditional Japanese food, and in doing so, created a space that has become a beloved institution in the community; and

 

WHEREAS, through tireless dedication and personal sacrifice-including living in a 400-square-foot apartment that also served as storage for her restaurant, and personally promoting her food by offering samples on the streets-Miyoko exemplified the spirit of perseverance and entrepreneurship; and

 

WHEREAS, her unwavering commitment to quality, authenticity, and hospitality has earned Sakura Restaurant & Bar a reputation for excellence, making it a cornerstone of the local dining scene and a cherished gathering place for generations of families; and

 

WHEREAS, Miyoko has continually credited the success of Sakura not only to her own efforts but also to her hardworking staff, loyal customers, and the community that embraced her dream and helped it flourish;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we recognize and honor Miyoko Omori for her outstanding contributions to the cultural and culinary fabric of Saint Paul, her resilience as a small business owner, and her lasting impact on the lives of those she has touched through food, hospitality, and community.

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that this resolution serves as a token of deep appreciation and admiration for her legacy, and a celebration of the passion and heart she has poured into Sakura Restaurant & Bar for more than 30 years.
