Authorizing the City Attorney’s Office to accept $160,042.00 in additional funds and amend the 2024 Special Fund Budget for an amended award from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) Crime Victim Services grant program.
Body

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, in RES 23-1344, accepted an award in the amount of $139,767 from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS), Office of Justice Programs (OJP) Crime Victim Services grant program for the grant period of October 1, 2023, to September 30, 2024; and

WHEREAS, DPS has offered to increase the awarded amount by $160,042, to a total of $299,809 and extend the grant period through September 30, 2025; and

WHEREAS, this amended award will assist the City Attorney’s Office in funding a Victim Witness Coordinator and a Victim Outreach Assistant, both of which are currently funded by this grant which is set to expire on September 30, 2024; and

WHEREAS, the City Attorney’s Office, Criminal Division, continues to rely heavily on the work of these grant-funded Victim/Witness Coordinator and Assistant positions to provide services to crime victims and uphold statutory mandates in Minn. Stat. 611A (Crime Victims’ Rights) as well as ensure underserved communities are able to access the criminal justice system; and

WHEREAS, there is no additional matching requirement for the additional funds; and

WHEREAS, the 2024 financing and spending plans need to be amended and activity budget added for these funds; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation total revenues in excess of those estimated in the budget, additional funds of $160,042 in the Special Fund; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the City Council accepts this additional funding in the amount of $160,042 and extends the above-outlined grant period through September 30, 2025, as it be hereby further a...
