Title

Authorizing the Fire Department to apply for the 2025 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant in the amount of $8,449,689.78 from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to hire 21 additional firefighters.

Body

WHEREAS, the Fire Department would like to apply for the 2025 Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant to hire 21 additional firefighters; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant application materials have been reviewed for any new federal grant requirements; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant amount would be $8,449,689.78, of which the federal government would provide $5,210,642.02 to support these additional firefighters for the three year grant term; and

 

WHEREAS, the grant requires a decreasing federal share over time, with an increasing local share; and

 

WHEREAS, the Fire Department would provide a local match of $3,239,047.76 to be paid from the general fund over the three year grant period; and

 

WHEREAS, the Grants Division of the Office of Financial Services has reviewed and approved the Intent to Apply request; and

 

WHEREAS, the City certifies that it will comply with all applicable laws and regulation as stated in the grant agreement; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the Fire Department to apply for the 2025 SAFER Grant.
