Celebrating the Saint Paul Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People's 105th Anniversary, and Proclaiming April 26, 2018 as Return-to-GRACE (Green, Reproducible, Affordable, Clean Energy) Day in the City of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, 2018 marks the 105th Anniversary of the Saint Paul Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) and is the 50th anniversary of the great civil rights upheaval and the assassination of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. in 1968; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Branch of the NAACP was founded in 1913 to ensure political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination in Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, disparities in housing, employment, health outcomes, and the environment still exist and takes a toll on life and health among people of color in the nation and in Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Branch of the NAACP is leading the effort to reduce these disparities by encouraging and supporting clean renewable energy, training and employment; and
WHEREAS, the theme for the 105th Anniversary of the St. Paul NAACP is Return-to-GRACE (Green, Reproducible, Affordable, Clean, Energy); and
WHEREAS, Return-to-GRACE is an efficient way to revitalize economic prosperity and development in our communities and is a tool to utilize our environment as an opportunity to build our community; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Saint Paul City Council do hereby recognizes the Saint Paul NAACP's 105th Anniversary; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, the Saint Paul City Council proclaims April 26, 2018 as Return-to-GRACE (Green, Reproducible, Affordable, Clean Energy) Day in the City of Saint Paul and urge all citizens in the City of Saint Paul to join us in reflecting on the 50th anniversary of the assassination of the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. and standing in solidarity with the R...
