Celebrating 40 Years of the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts.

WHEREAS, for 40 years, the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts has been a community gathering place in the heart of downtown Saint Paul, bringing the talent of world-class performers and Minnesota-based artists to its stages, inspiring millions of visitors with musicals, concerts, dance shows, speakers, and civic events; and
WHEREAS, the Ordway contributes to the economic vitality of St. Paul, benefiting restaurants, hotels, and local businesses, generating $40 million in economic impact annually; and
WHEREAS, the Ordway has had a steadfast commitment to making the arts accessible to all, through innovative programming like Ordway Inside Out hosted in Rice Park, and reflecting the communities it serves on its stages and in its audiences; and
WHEREAS, the Ordway’s successful partnership with the Knight Foundation provides a diverse group of emerging and veteran artists a platform to showcase their talents and launch their careers; and
WHEREAS, the Ordway produces the annual Flint Hills Family Festival – one of the longest-standing and most accessible events of its kind in the country – which has attracted more than one million children and adults for free and low-cost art activities over the last 25 years; and
WHEREAS, the Ordway serves nearly 50,000 students, educators, and families each year through its student matinee performances, in-classroom workshops, and arts education and community impact programs; and
WHEREAS, the Ordway is also home to three other valued Saint Paul artistic institutions: the Minnesota Opera, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra and Schubert Club;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that we recognize and honor the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts for serving as a cultural and artistic beacon in St. Paul for all community members, and contributing to the vibrancy and vitality of downtown.
