Recognizing John Rihm for his contributions to the community and declaring November 10, 2010 as John Rihm Day in the City of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, John W. Rihm, was the third generation owner of Rihm-Kenworth, one of the oldest, largest, continually-operating Kenworth Truck Dealers in the world, with over 100 employees; and
WHEREAS John W. Rihm followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, John B. Rihm, who founded Rihm Motor Company in 1932, and his father, Walter Rihm, who brought the company to great prominence in the industry; and
WHEREAS founder John B. Rihm was working on University Avenue as far back as 1927 for the Owens Ford Company, and later worked as an auto dealer for the Hudson and Packard companies before establishing the Rihm Motor Company; and
WHEREAS, the longstanding presence of the Rihm family on University Avenue helped shape its unique historic character as a nationally recognized transportation corridor; and
WHEREAS, John W. Rihm embraced the family tradition of "treating customers the way you would like to be treated;" and
WHEREAS, John W. Rihm worked generously with community organizations promoting the betterment of University Avenue; and
WHEREAS, John W. Rihm passed away on October 5, 2010; and
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council recognizes with great appreciation the many contributions that John W. Rihm made to our community.
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council honors the legacy of John W. Rihm by declaring Wednesday, November 10, 2010 be

in the City of Saint Paul.
