Title

Authorizing the Office of Neighborhood Safety to accept grant funds from the Saint Paul and Minnesota Foundation to support the Project PEACE and St. Paul Public Schools Summer School Initiative, and to amend the financing and spending plan in the amount of $50,000.

Body

 

WHEREAS, the City of St. Paul has established the Office of Neighborhood Safety (ONS) within the Office of the City Attorney (Ord. 22-9); and

 

WHEREAS, ONS is a community justice, equity, and safety-focused office with programs that are community-centered, equity-focused, and non-punitive, including Project PEACE; and

 

WHEREAS, Project PEACE has partnered with St. Paul Public Schools (SPPS) to form the Project PEACE and SPPS Summer School Initiative in an effort to reduce violence among youth attending summer school in St. Paul in 2023; and 

 

WHEREAS, the City Council approved ONS to apply for $50,000 in grant funds from the St. Paul and Minnesota Foundation as outlined in RES 23-1072 to be used to hire violence interrupter staff to service the Project PEACE and SPPS Summer School Initiative; and 

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the City Charter and by receipt of the Grant certifies that there is available for appropriation funds of $50,000 in excess of those dedicated to ONS; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the City Council of St. Paul does hereby:

 

1.                     Authorize ONS to accept the Grant from the St. Paul and Minnesota Foundation in the amount of $50,000 to be used to support the Project PEACE and SPPS Summer School Initiative; and

 

2.                     Adopt, upon recommendation of the Mayor, that $50,000 is available for appropriation to ONS, as specified in the attached financial analysis form.
