Celebrating Saint Paul District Councils' 50th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, in 1975, the City of Saint Paul established a citywide community participation system that led to the creation of District Councils - one of the first models of its kind in the nation; and
WHEREAS, for 50 years, Saint Paul’s 17 District Councils have served as a vital bridge between neighborhoods and city government, ensuring residents have a voice in shaping their communities; and
WHEREAS, District Councils are our network of independent, neighborhood-based organizations that help residents engage with the city by amplifying projects, sharing opportunities to give input, and creating space for public participation; and
WHEREAS, thousands of dedicated volunteers and community leaders have contributed their time, energy, and care to make District Councils a trusted and consistent resource in Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, today, District Councils not only lift up community voices but also foster vibrant, connected neighborhoods through events, partnerships, and welcoming spaces for dialogue and collaboration; and
WHEREAS, city government often operates in broad strokes, District Councils help draw the fine lines - offering valued insights rooted in neighborhood history, identity, and lived experience; and
WHEREAS, from District Plans and public forums to hands-on community projects, District Councils turn neighborhood priorities into action. They organize neighborhood events, host community gardens, support small businesses, pursue funding for local infrastructure improvements, and recruit neighborhood leaders that reflect the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, District Councils are committed to inclusive engagement, working to ensure all voices - especially those historically underrepresented - are part of shaping the future of their neighborhoods; now
BE IT RESOLVED, the Saint Paul City Council proudly celebrates this milestone and extend its gratitude to District Councils for 50 years...
