Authorizing the Police Department to apply to the FY 2026 CPD Microgrants Program from the U.S. Department of Justice to increase the Recruitment Unit’s ability to engage potential candidates.
Body
WHEREAS, Chapter 10 of the Saint Paul City Charter recognizes the City Council’s authority over the budget and spending of the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 86 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code requires all contracts be authorized by the Saint Paul City Council; and
WHEREAS, Section 86.12 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code requires City Council approval prior to submission of grant applications; and
WHEREAS, the U.S. Department of Justice has invited proposals for grants from the FY 2026 Community Policing Development (CPD) Microgrants Program; and
WHEREAS, the grants are for a maximum of $200,000 with a grant term of up to 24 months, and would be used to increase the Recruitment Unit’s ability to engage potential candidates; and
WHEREAS, this grants program allows for multiple applications from the same agency, and this is the second proposal that Police seeks to submit; and
WHEREAS, there is no required match of these funds by the City; and
WHEREAS, the Grants Division of the Office of Financial Services has reviewed and approved the Intent to Apply request; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorizes the Police Department to apply for the grants from the FY 2026 CPD Microgrants Program
