Accepting the gift of airfare, transportation, and food expenses from the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund for Muneer Karcher-Ramos, Director of the Office of Financial Empowerment, to attend the National Convening on Local Consumer Protection in Chicago, Illinois on July 9, 2019.

WHEREAS, Muneer Karcher-Ramos, Director of the Office of Financial Empowerment, has been invited by the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund to attend the National Convening on Local Consumer Protection at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago held in Chicago, Illinois on July 9, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul through its Office of Financial Empowerment is formally part of the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund Cities Start Cohort; and
WHEREAS, this convening will be an opportunity for the City of Saint Paul to hear from city leaders from across the nation on the ways in which cities can develop approaches to local consumer protection; and
WHEREAS, local consumer protection agencies can augment financial empowerment gains by protecting consumer assets through licensing, regulation, enforcement, mediation, and outreach and education; and
WHEREAS, the convening will build knowledge of how three cities are using local consumer protection, hear from expert on what robust local consumer protection looks like in practice, and explore consumer complaint mediation tools; and
WHEREAS, for the above-articulated reasons, the Saint Paul City Council finds a public purpose for Muneer Karcher-Ramos’ attendance at the National Convening on Local Consumer Protection; and
WHEREAS, the Cities for Financial Empowerment Fund have offered to cover all expenses related to airfare, transportation, hotel reservation, and food expenses for Muneer Karcher-Ramos, now therefore be it
