Authorizing the Police Department (SPPD) to enter into a one-year lease agreement with the University of Minnesota which includes an automatic renewal option.
Body
WHEREAS, for over fifty years the Saint Paul Police Department Ordnance Disposal Unit (ODU) has participated in land use agreements with the Regents of the University of Minnesota for the property described in the lease agreement; and
WHEREAS, this land use agreement provides a location for the department’s ODU team to render safe any materials obtained during an emergency response, as well as engage in training exercises that are needed to maintain ODU certifications for the team; and
WHEREAS, there is no alternative closer land site available that would meet the needs of the ODU team and in consideration for public safety; and
WHEREAS, it is essential for the safety of the team and public safety considerations there are items on the attached lease that have been redacted for public presentation; and
WHEREAS, the agreement contains an indemnification clause; and
WHEREAS, the City Council finds that use of the lease premises will serve a legitimate public purpose in assisting the SPPD in its efforts to keep the public safe; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council hereby authorizes the proper city officials to execute said lease in a form and content substantially as set for in the attached hereto.
