Celebrating the 91st Birthday of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and Recognizing the Contributions of Saint Paul’s Tibetan Community.

Whereas, Tibetan Buddhists believe the Dalai Lamas are manifestations of Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion and spiritual leaders of Tibet; and
Whereas, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Tenzin Gyatso, is the incumbent Dalai Lama and spiritual leader of Tibetan Buddhism recognized worldwide for his teachings on peace, compassion, and nonviolence; and
Whereas, His Holiness was recognized as the reincarnation of the 13th Dalai Lama at an early age and devoted his life to the study and practice of Buddhist philosophy and the promotion of compassion, interfaith dialogue, and mutual respect; and
Whereas, Following the invasion of Tibet by the People’s Republic of China in 1950 and the Tibetan Uprising of 1959, he fled into exile and has since worked to preserve the Tibetan people’s cultural, religious, and historical heritage; and
Whereas, The Dalai Lama has traveled extensively throughout the world, including Minnesota, fostering greater understanding, tolerance, harmony, and compassion among people of all faiths and backgrounds; and
Whereas, In 1989, His Holiness was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for advocating peaceful solutions based on tolerance and mutual respect; and
Whereas, His teachings on secular ethics, compassion, and emotional resilience have influenced educators, spiritual practitioners, and leaders globally; and
Whereas, Over 5,000 Tibetans now call Minnesota home, contributing to the social, cultural, and economic fabric of our communities; and
Whereas, Since 2003, “Lugnyi Phuntsok Khang,” the Tibetan Community Center located in St Paul, has served as the heart of the Tibetan community by preserving Tibetan language, culture, and traditions while providing a gathering place for community events, religious and cultural celebrations; and
