Accepting the gift from Springboard for the Arts, of an all travel expenses paid trip including airfare, lodging and meals on behalf of the City of Saint Paul so Joe Spencer may attend The EmcArts program retreat.

Whereas Springboard for the Arts is a Saint Paul based nonprofit organization whose mission is to cultivate a vibrant arts community by connecting artists with the skills, contacts, information and services they need to make a living and a life; and
Whereas In fall 2010, Springboard for the Arts was selected by the national organization, EmcArts, as one of 4 organizations to participate in their Round 5 Innovation Lab; and
Whereas Springboard is the first service organization in the country selected for this program, which is funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation; and
Whereas Springboard is particularly interested in using community organizing principles and ideas to develop artist-led solutions; and
Whereas, through participation in the Lab, Springboard is creating a national model for community-based replication of its services; and
Whereas, this kind of national recognition is a terrific opportunity for Saint Paul to tell its story to a broad audience and a public purpose that will further establish our reputation of a World Class City with the best Artists Community in the country; and
The EmcArts program involves assembling an "innovation team" to participate in a consulting process and week-long retreat at the Airlie Center in Virginia; and
Whereas Springboard has asked Mayor Colemans Director of Arts and Culture, Joe Spencer, to join the innovation team.
Now, Therefore be it resolved, that the City of Saint Paul, accepts this gift of all travel expenses including airfare (approximately $500), lodging (approximately $800), and meals that are associated with this trip so that Joe Spencer may attend the retreat.
