Authorizing the Department of Public Works to ask for and accept donations of new and gently used mittens, hats, and scarves; non-perishable food items; and hygiene products to be donated to people in need through the Community Cupboard at 891 Dale Street.

Body

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works has a Community Cupboard at 891 Dale Street that makes donated items, such as winter clothing, non-perishable foods, and hygiene products, available to individuals in need at no cost; and

WHEREAS, Saint Paul Administrative Code §41.04 (b) requires prior approval of the City Council by resolution to solicit funds and/or property or services in kind on behalf of the City; and

WHEREAS, the City, on behalf of the Department of Public Works, would like to ask for and accept the donation of new and gently used mittens, hats, and scarves; non-perishable food items; and hygiene products from community members for the Community Cupboard; and the expected value of these solicitations is anticipated to be below $500; and

WHEREAS, the community members may drop off donation items for the Community Cupboard at the Saint Paul Snow Summit on Saturday, October 5, 2024, and in the Community Cupboard throughout the year, and

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works has a plan to distribute the donated items throughout the winter months to community members in need through the Community Cupboard; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the City Council of Saint Paul hereby authorizes the Department of Public Works to ask for and accept donations of new and gently used mittens, hats, and scarves; non-perishable food items; and hygiene products for the Community Cupboard.
