Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for and accept $8,500 in cost-share funding from the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District for mechanical harvesting of aquatic vegetation on Lake Phalen in 2018.

 

Body

WHEREAS, the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District (RWMWD) Stewardship Program offers financial assistance for aquatic vegetation harvesting to protect and improve water resources; and

 

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has mechanically harvested aquatic vegetation on Lake Phalen since 2002 and is eligible to receive up to 50% cost-share funding through RWMWD for a 2018 harvest; and

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation requests permission to apply for and accept up to $8,500 in cost-share funding from RWMWD to cover contractor costs associated with the 2018 harvest on Lake Phalen; and

 

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds that accepting these grant funds will allow Parks and Recreation to fulfill ecological principles of water resources protection; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that the Department of  Parks and Recreation staff are hereby authorized to seek RWMWD cost-share funds on behalf of the City and, if successful, enter into an agreement with the District to accept the funds.
