Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for and, if approved, accept a $1600.00 grant from the Minnesota Twins to support baseball and softball youth coaching positions at Scheffer Recreation Center during the summer of 2011.
Body
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation provides youth sports opportunities for the youth of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, Scheffer Recreation Center houses a growing youth baseball and softball program that is in need of quality coaches for their youth programs; and
WHEREAS, many area families are one parent households or have two parents working, and it can be challenging to get quality youth volunteer coaches; and
WHEREAS,The Minnesota Twins have a grant program which would provide funds to pay a stipend to quality high school level coaches who are willing to spend their valuable time giving back to the community; and
WHEREAS, coaching positions filled with quality leadership will set good examples and become mentors for youth participants, and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation has been approved to receive a $1,600 grant; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorizes the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for and accept the grant from the Minnesota Twins.
