Accepting a gift of 14 overstory trees, and installation of said trees, in Wacouta Commons from the Friends of Wacouta Commons, valued at approximately $18,000.
Body
WHEREAS, Friends of Wacouta Commons engaged the District Council, City Council, and adjacent neighbors to discuss and approve planting of trees within Wacouta Commons; and
WHEREAS, due to compacted soils within Wacouta Commons, over story trees planted as part of park development did not survive; and
WHEREAS, Friends of Wacouta Commons raised funds to purchase, plant, and maintain 14 overstory trees within the park, utilizing radial trenching to allow for root growth within compacted soil; and
WHEREAS, Friends of Wacouta Commons selected a contractor to install trees according to the specifications of the Department of Parks and Recreation; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation wishes to accept the donation of the trees and their installation in Wacouta Commons; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul Council accepts the donation of the trees and thanks the Friends of Wacouta Commons for their generous gift.
