Accepting the gift of registration, meals, hotel and travel expenses from Local Progress for Council Vice President Nelsie Yang to attend the 2026 Local Progress National Convening.

WHEREAS, Local Progress was founded in 2012 as a movement of local elected officials advancing a racial and economic justice agenda, building power with underrepresented communities, and sharing and reshaping policy within local government; and

 

WHEREAS, Local Progress builds the policy and leadership capacity of elected officials while working in deep partnership with community-based organizations and policy advocates to strengthen connections and advance shared priorities; and

 

WHEREAS, Local Progress fights back against the unjust and immoral impacts of state and federal policies that inflict harm on people of color, immigrant communities, and working people, and drives collective action on affordable housing, immigrant rights, reimagining public safety, and economic justice; and

 

WHEREAS, all across the country, local governments are advancing the most innovative solutions to our biggest problems and creating new models of governance. At Local Progress, we work on a broad intersectional progressive agenda driven by a vision of racial and economic justice; and

 

WHEREAS, Council Vice President Nelsie Yang was invited by Local Progress to attend the National Convening in Baltimore, Maryland from July 9-11, 2026; and

 

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds that attendance at this convening benefits the City by providing an opportunity for participants to engage in sessions to develop strategies for addressing economic inequities, obtain relevant knowledge, and to connect with other members of local government prioritizing these issues; and

 

NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City Council accepts the gift of registration, meals, hotel and travel expenses up to $2800 to attend the national convening.
