Supporting the findings of the Red Rock Corridor Alternatives Analysis Update (AAU) Study.

WHEREAS, the Red Rock Corridor Commission was established in 1998 to address transportation needs in the Red Rock Corridor; and
WHEREAS, the Red Rock Corridor is a regionally and nationally significant transportation route that extends from Hastings through Saint Paul and on to Minneapolis; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is an active member of the Red Rock Corridor Commission; and
WHEREAS, the Red Rock Corridor Commission completed an Alternatives Analysis in 2007; and
WHEREAS, the Red Rock Corridor Commission has undertaken Alternatives Analysis Update (AAU) study that incorporated new information with respect to population, travel patterns and infrastructure development; and
WHEREAS, based on technical information, and the goals and objectives evaluation from the AAU, it has been concluded that Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is the alternative that is best aligned with the Red Rock Corridor Commission's approved objectives; and
WHEREAS, this conclusion has been made based on input received from the public in a variety of forums and in consultation with representatives on the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC); and
WHEREAS, the results of the study will allow the Commission to make more informed and strategic decisions about the next steps in the corridor development; and
WHEREAS, the City will continue to work with the Red Rock Corridor Commission to plan for future transit improvements in the Red Rock Corridor and the surrounding land uses within the station areas, as called for in the AAU;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the City supports the findings of the Red Rock Corridor Alternatives Analysis Update Study.
