Approving a nominal stipend increase in payment for community advisors who serve on the Audit Committee.
Body
WHEREAS, per RES 20-1110, the Saint Paul City Council established the Saint Paul Audit Committee on August 12, 2020; and
WHEREAS, the Audit Committee’s mission is to evaluate the financial and program performance of City departments to build public trust and ensure outstanding service delivery, transparency and accountability; and
WHEREAS, the City Council recognizes that volunteer participation from Saint Paul resident is one of the most effective ways to make a positive impact in improving city policies, programs and myriad issues facing our community; and
WHEREAS, per RES 20-1382, the City Council authorized stipend payments to compensate community advisors for their time and effort in providing vital and important contributions to the work of the Audit Committee; and
WHEREAS, since the re-establishment of the Audit Committee, the community advisors, at great demand of their personal time and work schedule, have continued to provide valuable perspective and input that facilitate and advance the committee's mission and work; and
WHEREAS, the Audit Committee and the Saint Paul City Council desire to increase their stipend for attending a 2-hour monthly in-person meeting during regular work hours from thirty dollars ($30.00) to forty dollars ($40.00); and
WHEREAS, the stipend paid to the community advisors aligns with other public members of our city's boards and commissions and help defray related expenses such as travel and child-care; and, now, therefore be it
RESOLVED that the City Council finds that the nominal increase in stipend payment paid to the community advisors of the Audit Committee serves a public purpose for their service to the Audit Committee and the City of Saint Paul.
