Authorizing the Police Department to submit two applications to the FY 2026 Byrne Discretionary Grants Program from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Body
WHEREAS, Chapter 10 of the Saint Paul City Charter recognizes the City Council’s authority over the budget and spending of the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 86 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code requires all contracts be authorized by the Saint Paul City Council; and
WHEREAS, Section 86.12 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code requires City Council approval prior to submission of grant applications; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department has been invited to apply for two grants from the U.S. Department of Justice’s FY 2026 Invited to Apply - Byrne Discretionary Community Project Grants Program; and
WHEREAS, each grant would be for $1,031,000 with grant terms of up to 48 months; and
WHEREAS, one grant is for CCTV improvement, and the other is for the SPPD’s Records Management System; and
WHEREAS, there is no required match of these funds by the City; and
WHEREAS, the Grants Division of the Office of Financial Services has reviewed and approved the Intent to Apply request; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorizes the Police Department to apply for the grants from the Byrne Discretionary Grants Program.
