Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to solicit and accept donations for the 2015 Explore Outdoors Saint Paul event series.

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Department of Parks and Recreation, in partnership with the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, will be offering the first annual Explore Outdoors Saint Paul event series from May 16th through September 26th, 2015; and
WHEREAS, the event series promotes outdoor recreation, healthy living, and environmental learning in Saint Paul's parkland; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation wishes to solicit donations of cash, merchandise, and gift cards to offer as prizes to participants in the event. To encourage people to try new activities, each time a person participates he/she will be entered into a drawing for prizes from a drawing at the end of the summer; and
WHEREAS, individual solicitations will be under $500; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 41 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code sets forth the process for allowing employees of the City of Saint Paul to solicit funds and/or property and for solicitations in the amount of five hundred dollars ($500.00) or less, the mayor or designee, or the council as a whole or designee, or any department head or designee may solicit funds on behalf of the city or on behalf of any city-sponsored function or organization; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Director of Parks and Recreation or his designee is authorized to solicit and accept donations for the 2015 Explore Outdoors Saint Paul event series.
FURTHER RESOLVED, that a report of all solicitations pursuant to this resolution will be provided to the city clerk, mayor and each councilperson.
