Authorizing Councilmember Carter to accept a gift of travel, lodging, and miscellaneous travel expenses to participate in a delegation led by the Wilder Foundation in regards to the Promise Neighborhood grant.

WHEREAS, the Wilder Foundation has invited Councilmember Melvin Carter to participate in a delegation to Washington D.C. to participate in a meeting with the United States Department of Education, a reception and meeting sponsored by Policy Link, and a Capitol Hill Congressional briefing in regards to the Promise Neighborhood Grant, to be held November 7-10, 2010, for the purpose of providing support and guidance during the planning year; and
WHEREAS, the Wilder Foundation will cover costs incurred through a grant received from the U.S. Department of Education and will provide three nights lodging, airfare, and miscellaneous travel expenses such as food and ground transportation, totaling approximately $1,727, for Councilmember Carter to attend said delegation; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council on behalf of the citizens of Saint Paul, accepts the gift of lodging and travel from the Wilder Foundation on behalf of the U.S Department of Education and appropriates it to the public purpose of Councilmember Carter's attendance at the Promise Neighborhood meetings; and be it
FINALLY RESOLVED, that the City Council determines this to have public purpose and the Council extends its thanks and appreciation to the Wilder Foundation and U.S. Department of Education for its generosity and public service in this matter.
