Title

Authorizing the Police Department to accept $285,000 in additional funds and amend the 2024 Special Fund Budget for an amended award from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for the Enforcement Grant Program 2024 program.

Body

Whereas, the City of Saint Paul, in RES PH 23-324, accepted an award from the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) for the Enforcement Grant Program 2024 program for the Police Department; and

WHEREAS, DPS has offered to increase the awarded amount by $285,000, to a total of $1,431,000; and

WHEREAS, the original grant is for the SPPD’s Traffic and Pedestrian Safety Unit to prevent injuries, deaths and property damage from crashes, and includes funds for subgrants to eight neighboring law enforcement agencies, who are also participating in the Enforcement activities funded by the grant;

 

WHEREAS, the additional funds will be used for supplies and training that furthers the original purpose of the grant; and

 

WHEREAS, there is no additional matching requirement for the additional funds; and

WHEREAS, the 2024 financing and spending plans need to be amended and activity budget added for these funds; and

WHEREAS, the Mayor, pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation total revenues in excess of those estimated in the budget, additional funds of $285,000 in the Special Fund; now

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Saint Paul, upon recommendation of the Mayor that $285,000 is available for appropriation in the Police Department Special Fund, as heretofore adopted and amended by this Council, be hereby further amended in the particulars as specified in the attached financial analysis.
