Authorizing the Police Department to accept a grant in the amount of $209,895 from the State of Minnesota for the Terrorism Prevention 2018 grant program.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department has been awarded the Terrorism Recruitment Prevention 2018 grant from the State of Minnesota, Department of Public Safety with the grant agreement including an indemnification clause; and
WHEREAS, this grant is state funded (Chapter 95, Article 1, Section 11, Subdivision 7) and provides funding to law enforcement agencies to develop strategies and make efforts to combat the recruitment of Minnesota residents by terrorist organizations such as ISIS and al-Shabaab; and
WHEREAS, the Saint Paul Police, along with the program partner, will use these funds to integrate community policing with community civic education and anti-radicalization strategies as a plan to counter violent extremism, and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into, and Assistant Chief Kathleen Wuorinen to implement the attached agreement with the State of Minnesota which includes an indemnification clause.
