Honoring Boy Scout Troop 17's 100th Anniversary.

WHEREAS, the Boy Scouts of America, established February 8, 1910, has been helping boys grow into outstanding young men for 106 years by providing skills for life and leadership, and opportunities to serve their God and Country; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 17, which was established in March of 1916, will be celebrating its 100th Anniversary on February 27, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 17 is recognized by Northern Star Council and the Boy Scouts of America as the oldest Boy Scout Troop in the State of Minnesota continuously chartered by the same organization and in the same location, St. Anthony Park United Church of Christ (formerly St. Anthony Park Congregational Church); and
WHEREAS, for 100 years Boy Scout Troop 17 has provided Scouts with a wide range of outdoor adventures and opportunities, focusing on skills that can be used for a lifetime, and has provided opportunities for development and growth in knowledge, leadership, care for the world in which we live, and to become men of character; and
WHEREAS, scouting teaches boys to be prepared, to do a good turn daily, and instills in the a sense of civic duty; and
WHEREAS, the Scouts and Adult Leaders of Boy Scout Troop 17 have an exceptional history of service to the community, city, state and nation;
WHEREAS, Boy Scout Troop 17, as well as other Boy Scout Troops, Cub Scout Packs, and Explorer Posts in the neighborhood have been an important part of the life of St. Anthony Park; and
WHEREAS, the service and commitment to the community fostered by Boy Scout Troop 17 contributes to making St. Anthony Park a richer and stronger neighborhood; and
WHEREAS, in its 100 years Boy Scout Troop 17 has produced as many Eagle Scouts, the highest rank in Boy Scouting, as its number of years; and
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council salutes the Scouts, Leaders, and parents of Boy Scout Troop 17 who have taken p...
