Amending RES 26-1543 to Correct the Honorary Co-Naming Boundaries of Mahmoud El-Kati Avenue.

Body

 

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council adopted RES 26-1543 honoring Elder Professor Emeritus of History Mahmoud El-Kati through an honorary street co-naming, and a technical correction is necessary to clarify the designated street boundaries; and

 

WHEREAS, the 900 block of Iglehart Avenue holds historical significance as the former home of Elder El-Kati at 955 Iglehart Avenue, where he raised his family and began his legacy of community service, and as the location of the historic Parks-Lynn House at 964 Iglehart Avenue, which is being transformed into a Black humanities and arts hub preserving his intellectual and cultural legacy; and

 

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that Iglehart Avenue between Oxford Street and Kent Street is hereby co-named Mahmoud El-Kati Avenue, and that appropriate street signage will be placed by the Department of Public Works with the intersection of Iglehart Avenue and North Milton Street designated as the location of the official street unveiling ceremony; and

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the official street dedication and unveiling ceremony shall take place on October 27, 2026, at the intersection of Iglehart Avenue and North Milton Street; and

 

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED, that the requester shall remain responsible for all costs associated with the honorary street signage, including materials, fabrication, labor, and installation, coordinated through the appropriate City departments at no additional cost to the City of Saint Paul.
