Authorizing the Police Department to accept a sub-grant in the amount of $286,600 from ServeMN for the AmeriCorps Law Enforcement Career Path Academy program.
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul, Police Department (SPPD) has received a sub-grant from the Corporation for National and Community Services (CNCS) through the State Service Commission, ServeMinnesota, SPPD would like to enter into an agreement for this sub-award; and
WHEREAS, recognizing the need to increase public safety and improve the relationship between law enforcement and members of the community, CNCS has made police-community relations a priority and the SPPD will use AmeriCorps members to strengthen police-community relations within racially diverse and challenged neighborhood through the Law Enforcement Career Path Academy program; and
WHEREAS, this grant provides funds to support the SPPD with its efforts to making law-enforcement more representative of the Saint Paul communities; and
WHEREAS, the 2018 financing and spending plan needs to be amended and activity budget added for these funds; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor pursuant to Section 10.07.1 of the Charter of the City of Saint Paul, does certify that there are available for appropriation funds of $125,000 in excess of those estimated in the 2018 budget and recommends the following changes; and
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that council accepts this grant award and authorizes the City of Saint Paul to enter into an agreement for this grant award and approves these changes to the 2018 budget.
