Supporting religious minorities persecuted globally and establishing a process for City Council action in response to requests for advocacy in support of persecuted minorities.

Whereas, the City of Saint is a welcoming place for people of all faiths; and
Whereas, the people and institutions of various faiths have helped build the city of Saint Paul in various ways; and
Whereas, religious persecutions have been growing all across the world as documented in recent reports; and
Whereas, residents of the City of Saint Paul have family, cultural and economic relationships in countries identified in global reports as persecuting religious minorities and are concerned about their safety and the rule of law; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul condemns all acts of persecution of religious minorities by governments, individuals, organizations, and groups; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that within 60 days, the City Council staff, in consultation with the Department of Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity, shall establish a formal process to accept, research, and evaluate community requests for action against local, national, and international religious persecution outlined in this legislation and it will further provide a method for determining proper advocacy steps appropriate to any such request.
