TITLE
Accepting the donation of conference registration from CNU (Congress for the New Urbanism) for up to three City staff to attend CNU 34 in Northwest Arkansas from May 12-16, 2026.
BODY
WHEREAS, Congress for the New Urbanism (CNU) will waive registration fees for up to three City staff to attend their annual conference, CNU 34, to learn from and network with international practitioners in architecture, urban design, planning, development, and engineering; and
WHEREAS, the Twin Cities have been selected as the host location for CNU 35, June 15-18, 2027 and local attendance at CNU 34 will help City staff understand and prepare for hosting the event in 2027; and
WHEREAS, CNU 34 will be an opportunity for the City of Saint Paul to hear from leaders on a variety of relevant topics such as best practices in downtown revitalization, transit-oriented communities, missing middle housing, and walkable urbanism; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Minn. Stat. 465.03, the City is allowed to accept, by a resolution adopted by a two-thirds majority of the City Council, a grant or devise of real or personal property in accordance with the terms prescribed by the donor; and
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saint Paul finds that attendance at CNU 34 benefits the City by providing an opportunity for staff to learn from best practices related to planning and development across the nation and prepare for hosting CNU 35 in 2027.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Saint Paul City Council accepts the donation of up to three registration fee waivers from Congress for the New Urbanism for CNU 34 so City staff may attend, and thanks them for their generosity.
