Honoring the Life of WangSang Her and Proclaiming Saturday, November 18, 2023 as WangSang Her Day in the City of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, WangSang Her was born on June 15, 1950, in the village of Pas Hawv in Vang Vieng, Vientiane, Laos and migrated with his family to Pham Maij in Sanaham, Vientiane, Laos at the age of 10; and
WHEREAS, at the age of 18, Her married the love of his life Phoua Xiong in 1968; and
WHEREAS, Her was recruited to serve in the Royal Lao Army alongside General Vang Pao, who dutifully fought to protect the country from communism through 1978; and
WHEREAS, Her left his country behind once Laos was overcome by communism, crossing the Mekong River, and settling into Ban Vinai Refugee Camp in Thailand in March 1979; and
WHEREAS, Her was highly regarded by his family and peers as a kind-hearted, loving, and generous man whose willingness to help all people led him to be elected as his family clan leader, and
WHEREAS, Her’s knowledge, wisdom, and his want for freedom and prosperity of his family and peers led them to move to Wat Tham Krabok, Saraburi, Thailand, where he also served as a leader to all Hmong refugees who lived in the compound; and
WHEREAS, in June of 2004, Her organized his family and led them to immigrate to the United States, where they settled in Sacramento, California before moving to Anchorage, Alaska in 2010 and then to Saint Paul, Minnesota in 2019, and
WHEREAS, Her was a survivor of kidney failure and endured years of dialysis before he passed away in the presence of his loving family on September 27, 2023, at 11:00am and now joins his beloved late wife; and
WHEREAS, WangSang Her’s celebration of life will take place at the Twin Legacy Funeral Home - West Chapel in Saint Paul on Friday, November 17, 2023 - Sunday, November 19, 2023; therefore, be it
