Approving the Mayor’s appointment of Mariana Smith to the Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity Commission.

WHEREAS, the Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity (HREEO) Commission is responsible for monitoring and advising the department on promoting justice and equity and fosters hiring policies that maximize the diversity of the workforce of the city; and
WHEREAS, Saint Paul Legislative Code Section 183.19 (1) states that the Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity Commission consists of twenty-one (21) members appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Council; and
WHEREAS, Mariana Smith applied to fill an open seat and has been recommended by staff to serve on the Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity Commission; and
WHEREAS, Mayor Melvin Carter wishes to appoint Mariana Smith to the Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity Commission for a three-year term ending on October 31, 2028; now, therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council approves the appointment of Mariana Smith to the Human Rights and Equal Employment Opportunity Commission for a three-year term ending on October 31, 2028.
