Authorizing the Department of Public Works to accept a gift of reimbursement of airfare expenses, registration, and per diem for the Street Maintenance Engineer of Public Works, and ASCE national representative for Region 3, Chris DeDene, to attend the 2026 American Society of Civil Engineers’ (ASCE) Geo-Institute National Chapter Summit on July 30-31, and to amend the budget to accommodate the gift estimated to be $1,000.

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works would like to send an employee to the annual ASCE G-I National Chapter Summit that will be held on July 30 & 31, 2026, in Reston, Virginia; and,
WHEREAS, the City, on behalf of the Department of Public Works, would like to accept the gift of funding from ASCE for Chris DeDene to attend by providing travel expenses and related summit costs of $1,000 and,
WHEREAS, the summit features workshops on advanced geotechnical engineering tools, sessions on Recruitment, Retention, and Reactivation (R3) workforce development strategies, and offers interaction with leaders from FHWA, USGS, and other leading professionals from across the country,
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Saint Paul finds that the knowledge gained from this summit will provide direct public benefit to the residents and the infrastructure of Saint Paul by fostering inter-agency collaboration, networking, technical skill development, and sharing best practices with professionals from across the country; and now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council of the City of Saint Paul hereby authorizes the Department of Public Works to accept the gift of travel and summit-related costs from the ASCE and thanks them for their generous gift; and, be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the Department of Public Works to amend the operational budget to account for the incoming gift from ASCE of $1,000 for the specified travel period.
