Authorizing specific expenditures for employees involved in the winter snow event beginning February 21 going through February 25, 2023 in the 2023 spending budget of the Department of Public Works Winter Street Maintenance accounting unit.
Body
WHEREAS, a significant and long-duration snow event is forecast for central Minnesota including the City of Saint Paul February 21 through February 23; and
WHEREAS, this snowfall event will necessitate two back-to-back snow emergencies; and
WHEREAS, in order to keep arterial streets passable during this event and then clean up after the event we anticipate needing to run plowing shifts 24 hours per day; and
WHEREAS, to take appropriate rest periods between shifts without the risks of travel home the Department of Public Works requests authority to purchase hotel accommodations near the Dale Street campus for staff that request it; and
WHEREAS, this expenditure for hotel accommodations shall not exceed $6,200; and
WHEREAS, employees may find it difficult to find meals during this snow emergency period therefore the Department of Public Works requests authority to provide several meals, snacks and beverages during this period; and
WHEREAS, this expenditure for snow emergency food and beverages shall not exceed $6,000; and
WHEREAS, there is adequate spending budget in the Winter Street Maintenance General Fund accounting unit to support this spending; now
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Saint Paul, upon recommendation of the Mayor that $12,200 is available for transfer or appropriation in the Public Works General Fund Winter Street Maintenance budget, as heretofore adopted and amended by this Council, be hereby further amended in the particulars as specified in the attached financial analysis.
