Title

Authorizing the City to enter into a one-year license agreement with two year-long renewal options with the State of Minnesota, Department of the Administration on behalf of the Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to use a portion of the City’s Fire Station No. 7.

Body

WHEREAS, the City is the owner of the old Fire Station No. 7, located at 1038 Ross Avenue, Saint Paul, Minnesota 55106 (the “Fire Station”), and has entered a License Agreement (the “License Agreement”) with the State of Minnesota, Department of the Administration, on behalf of the Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (the “State”) to allow the State to use certain space within the Fire Station for up to one year with two year-long renewal options; and

WHEREAS, the Fire Station is not an active fire house, and entering into the License Agreement allows the City to generate revenue from an aging facility; and

WHEREAS, Saint Paul Administrative Code Section 86.03(a) requires that all real estate contracts with a duration of more than one year be approved by the City Council; and

WHEREAS, the State has indicated it would like exercise both options to renew; and

WHEREAS, under the License Agreement, the City may terminate the license for any reason whatsoever following sixty days’ notice to the State; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorizes the City to enter into an up to three-year lease agreement with the State of Minnesota, Department of the Administration on behalf of the Department of Public Safety, Bureau of Criminal Apprehension to use a portion of the City’s Fire Station No. 7.
