Authorizing the Department of Safety and Inspections (DSI) to apply for the 2025 ASPCA Northern Tier Shelter Initiative Quality of Life Grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) to purchase new cat housing and dog Kuranda beds for the new City Animal Shelter.

WHEREAS, DSI would like to apply to the 2025 ASPCA Northern Tier Shelter Initiative Quality of Life Grant from the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) which seeks to improve the quality of life for animals in shelters by implementing new or enhancing existing processes in the area of animal housing and facilities; and
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul is currently undertaking a $5.8 million building renovation to create a new shelter that prioritizes improving the quality of care of animals sheltered by the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, funding for the cat cages and dog kennels of the new shelter are still being fully identified and developed; and
WHEREAS, the grant would provide $25,000 to cover all the cat housing costs and a portion of the Kuranda beds for dogs; and
WHEREAS, the grant requires no matching funds and is for one year;
WHEREAS, the City certifies that it will comply with all applicable laws and regulations as stated in the grant agreement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorize the DSI to apply for the 2025 ASPCA Northern Tier Shelter Initiative Quality of Life Grant from American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
