Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to accept a $40,000 grant from the National Recreation Park Association to support and expand the 2011 summer meals programs at the City's Recreation Centers and Roaming Recreation sites.
Body
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation has been involved with the Summer Food Service program for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS, the Summer Food Service Program provides federally funded meals to feed hungry children throughout Saint Paul at the City's recreation centers and Roaming Recreation sites; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation served over 61,000 meals to children in Saint Paul in summer of 2010; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation's goal for 2011 is to serve 75,000 meals; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation has been approved to receive a $40,000 grant from the National Recreation Park Association to support, strengthen and expand the Summer Food Service Program in 2011; and
WHEREAS, Parks and Recreation will use the money to purchase needed equipment and to pay staff to assist in meal service at additional sites in Saint Paul; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City of Saint Paul and the Saint Paul Council authorizes Parks and Recreation to accept the grant from the National Recreation Park Association and to comply with the terms, including particpation in publicity for the granting foundation
