Accepting the gift of travel expenses from the Knight Foundation for Councilmember Rebecca Noecker, Chief Equity Officer Toni Newborn, and Deputy Director Cassi Johnson to attend the Knight Cities Learning Journey to Greenville, South Carolina from March 31-April 3, 2020.

WHEREAS, Rebecca Noecker, Councilmember for Ward 2, Toni Newborn, Chief Equity Officer for the Mayor, and Cassi Johnson, Deputy Director of the Office of Technology and Communications, have been selected by the Knight Foundation, with assistance from the Smart Growth America team, to attend a study tour of Greenville, South Carolina from March 31 - April 3, 2020; and
WHEREAS, this grant is made as part of the Knight Foundation's Knight Cities Challenge, which seeks to fund new ideas to take hold of the future of the communities in which Knight invests; and
WHEREAS, this will be an opportunity for the City of Saint Paul to send representatives to tour communities and learn about adopting effective and inclusive approaches to public life; and
WHEREAS, the study tour will be attended by delegations from the Knight cities of West Palm Beach, FL, and Charlotte, NC and seeks to build productive relationships within and between the delegations; and
WHEREAS, the Council finds that there is a public purpose for these individuals to attend this event because their attendance will expose participants to public realm best practices that they can bring back to Saint Paul; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, the Saint Paul City Council accepts the gift of reimbursement of $500 for round trip airfare for each of Councilmember Rebecca Noecker, Chief Equity Officer Toni Newborn, and Deputy Director Cassi Johnson to attend the Knight Cities Learning Journey to Greenville, South Carolina from March 31-April 3, 2020 and thanks the Knight Foundation for its generosity.
