Authorizing the City Attorney's Office to pursue an available funding opportunity offered by the Cities for Citizenship "America is Home" Initiative.

WHEREAS, the Cities for Citizenship has released a request for proposals for the “America is Home” Initiative Grant, and
WHEREAS, Cities for Citizenship is a major national initiative aimed at increasing citizenship among eligible U.S. permanent residents and encouraging cities across the county to invest in citizenship programs and,
WHEREAS, the “America is Home” Initiative is a four-year, $5 million challenge grant program to help municipalities and community partners encourage U.S. citizenship among eligible immigrants and increase naturalization application rates.
Whereas, the Initiative provides two-year challenge grants for $25,00 and $40,000 annually to fund municipal citizenship encouragement programs.
Whereas the deadline for applications under this request is July 19, 2019, and
WHEREAS, the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office is planning on developing a Citizenship Initiative Program for the City of Saint Paul and this grant could provide some additional funding for that Initiative, and
WHEREAS, we recognize that the Citizenship initiative the City Attorney’s Office is developing would greatly benefit the residents of the City of St. Paul, and
WHEREAS, the St. Paul City Attorney’s Office, wishes to pursue the available funding opportunity offered by the Cities for Citizenship “America is Home” Initiative by applying for “America is Home” Initiative Grant, now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the St. Paul City Council authorizes the St. Paul City Attorney, Lyndsey M. Olson, and her designees to seek funding on behalf of the City and, if successful, the appropriate city authorities may enter into an agreement with the Cities for Citizenship "America is Home" Initiative to accept the funds on behalf of the City.
