Authorizing an extension to the Memorandum of Understanding between the Saint Paul Public Library and The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library

WHEREAS, since 1945, The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library (“The Friends”), has existed to raise funds to support Saint Paul Public Library (“SPPL”) collections, programs, services, facilities and staff professional development; and
WHEREAS, on January 14, 2026, pursuant to Resolution 25-2003, the Saint Paul Public Library Board (the “Board”) authorized SPPL to enter into a Memorandum of Understanding with The Friends to memorialize and clarify the cooperative relationship between the two entities (the “MOU”); and
WHEREAS, the MOU extends to December 31, 2027; and
WHEREAS, the Friends are applying for a certain grant to support SPPL which requires the MOU to extend to December 31, 2029, and the Friends have requested a revision to the MOU to extend the term of the agreement; and now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul Library Board (Board) supports SPPL and The Friends' cooperative relationship and authorizes them to enter into a revised MOU which extends the term of the MOU to December 31, 2029; and be it
FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Board finds the MOU to have a clear public purpose to benefit the development of Saint Paul Public Library system and visitor experiences; and be it
FINALLY RESOLVED, that the Board thanks The Friends staff, board and donors for their generosity and support.
