Authorizing the Police Department to apply for, and if awarded accept, a 2024 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

WHEREAS, Chapter 10 of the Saint Paul City Charter recognizes the City Council’s authority over the budget and spending of the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 86 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code requires all contracts be authorized by the Saint Paul City Council; and
WHEREAS, Section 86.12 of the Saint Paul Administrative Code requires City Council approval prior to submission of grant applications; and
WHEREAS, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety has invited applications for the 2024 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant program; and
WHEREAS, the Police Department has previously received funds from this grant program and intends to apply for $150,000 for equipment for the Bomb Squad; and
WHEREAS, this grant, if awarded, does not include a matching funds requirement and would be for the period of 1.1.25 to 6.30.26
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City of Saint Paul, upon recommendation of the Mayor, that the Police Department may apply for, and if awarded accept, a 2024 Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI) grant of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety
