Authorizing the Department of Parks and Recreation to apply for $15,000 in cost-share funding from the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District for mechanical harvesting of aquatic vegetation on Lake Phalen in 2025.

 

WHEREAS, the Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District (RWMWD) offers financial assistance for aquatic vegetation harvesting to protect and improve water resources, and;

 

WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul has mechanically harvested aquatic vegetation on Lake Phalen since 2002 and is eligible to receive up to 50% cost-share funding through RWMWD for a 2025 harvest, and;

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation requests permission to apply for $15,000 in cost-share funding from RWMWD to cover contractor costs associated with the 2025 harvest on Lake Phalen, and;

 

WHEREAS, the Saint Paul City Council finds that accepting these grant funds will allow Parks and Recreation to fulfill ecological principles of water resources protection, and;

 

WHEREAS, the expenditure of public funds for such a purpose will facilitate and enable it to take place; now, therefore, be it

 

RESOLVED, that designated Parks and Recreation staff are hereby authorized to seek Ramsey-Washington Metro Watershed District cost-share funds on behalf of the City.
