Authorizing Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity to accept a grant from General Mills in the amount of $10,000 for The EMS Academy.  
 
Body
WHEREAS, the City of Saint Paul's Department of Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunities was approved for a grant in the amount of $10,000 from The General Mills Foundation to celebrate communities of color in the Twin Cities' seven county metro area; and
WHEREAS, the purpose of the Saint Paul Fire EMS Academy is to promote diversity in the emergency medical workforce in the Twin Cities, which in turn creates a higher quality of patient care for the City of Saint Paul's residents, and provides a meaningful career pathway for minority and low-income youth residing in the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, the entirety of this grant will go towards funding the EMS Academy which includes but is not limited to: funding emergency medical services, paying instructors from Inver Hills Community College, purchasing academic supplies, e.g., textbooks, uniforms, paying testing fees, payng for medical training equipment necessary to the success of Saint Paul Fire EMS Academy Participants, paying wages to participants of the Saint Paul Fire EMS Academy during their tenure with the program, and securing employee assistance through the Community Action Partnership of Ramsey and Washington Counties; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the City Council authorizes the Department of Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunities to accept the grant and thanks  the General Mills Foundation for its generous support.
