Authorizing the City to apply for the Knight Cities Challenge from Knight Foundation to support a range of innovative projects to address community needs around expanding economic opportunity and growing cultural vibrancy.

WHEREAS, The City would like to apply to the Knight Cities Challenge from Knight Foundation, which; supports innovative, creative ideas for projects that can spark change, address community needs in new ways, and leave a lasting local impact; and
WHEREAS, Knight Foundation is accepting proposals in the areas of strengthening the information ecosystem, expanding economic mobility, and growing cultural vibrancy, and City departments are developing proposals that address Knight’s strategic focus areas; and
WHEREAS, the grant amount per project would be up to $200,000 with a grant term of one year and the funding source for this grant is private philanthropy; and
WHEREAS, the Grants Division of the Office of Financial Services has reviewed and approved up to five project ideas from different departments; and
WHEREAS, the City certifies that it will comply with all applicable laws and regulations as stated in the grant agreement; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council authorize the City to apply for the Knight Cities Challenge.
