ANGELA BURKHALTER DAY
WHEREAS, Angela Burkhalter dutifully provided six years of service to the City of Saint Paul in the Department of Planning and Economic Development and the newly created Department of Human Rights and Equal Opportunity; and
WHEREAS, Angela served as the Communications Administrator for the Minority Business Development and Retention Program, upon completion of her Twin Cities LISC apprenticeship. Her responsibilities included project management, community and business outreach, marketing, public relations, policy development and contract management; and
WHEREAS, Angela's work displayed a true commitment to the advancement of her community, where she maximized her vast network to play an integral role in the development of minority, women and small business ownership and promoted improved access to many resources available in the City of Saint Paul; and
WHEREAS, Angela has always brought her best self and enthusiasm to all of her endeavors - from becoming the top selling account representative at SBC Telecom, to establishing Burkhalter Enterprises where she shared her many talents as an image consultant. Her education from Manual High School in Kansas City, Missouri and Macalester College has been augmented by attending numerous professional training programs and seminars, such as the Mayor's Leadership Academy and Women Venture; and
WHEREAS, Angela is a loving mother, SURVIVOR, dedicated and active citizen with extensive volunteer experience and source of inspiration for all that know her. Ms. Burkhalter's endeavors while at the City of Saint Paul exemplify her profound sense of purpose and duty. In addition, organizations such as the African American Breast Cancer Alliance, American Cancer Society, Mt. Olivet Baptist Church, Genesis II for Women, Toast Masters International, Club 75 , Democratic Farm Labor Party, Minnesota Parent Teachers Association and the Saint Paul Police Commission have graciously taken advantage of Angela's many talents; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council recognizes Angela Burkhalter as a true ambassador for the City of Saint Paul and wishes her the very best in this next chapter of her life, as she celebrates life and retirement; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that December 9, 2010 shall be known as Angela Burkhalter Day in Saint Paul.
