Designating June 25, 2014 as Rose Ramey Day in the City of Saint Paul.

WHEREAS, Rose is celebrating 50 years of employment with Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota; and
WHEREAS, Rose is a fortunate mother and grandmother of three grown children, and eight grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Rose moved from Texas to Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1957 where she lived with her sister and helped tend to her nephew as he battled cancer; and
WHEREAS, Rose was hired as a textile grader in 1964 at Goodwill located on Sibley Avenue in downtown Saint Paul and after several months was asked to manage Goodwill's kitchen to serve lunch to its employees; and
WHEREAS, in 1970, when Goodwill moved to Como Avenue and Highway 280, Rose served both breakfast and lunch in the facility fondly known as Rose's kitchen; and
WHEREAS, anyone ever having the opportunity to taste Rose's sweet potato pie, peach kuchen, bread pudding, macaroni or collard greens, is hereby considered particularly fortunate; and
WHEREAS, Rose helped establish an on-site feeding program for the homeless at Shiloh Missionary Baptist church in Saint Paul, where at that time the program served over 10,000 dinners a year; and
WHEREAS, Rose is a respected leader and mentor who has counseled thousands of Minnesotans who have come to Goodwill in search of training and a job; and
WHEREAS, Rose is known to have a drawer full of belts handy in case a person should need to take off their cap, pull up their pants and wear a belt in order to get a job; and
WHEREAS, Rose has strengthened our community and economy with encouragement and tough love; and
WHEREAS, Rose feeds people advice, good counsel, insight and wisdom that goes beyond any training, and because she is authentic and means no harm, she has the ability to tell people what they need to hear; and
WHEREAS, in 2002 Goodwill-Easter Seals moved to its present location at 553 Fairview Ave North, where Rose is the Hospitality Coordinator, the first person to greet all who enter, and an ambassador for the organization; and
WHEREAS, today, her nephew is well and retired, and Rose, a youthful, spiritual 76, keeps on working and continues to be a caring presence for everyone she interacts with; and
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLED, that Wednesday, June 25, be designated Rose Ramey Day in the City of Saint Paul with all the rights and privileges that entails; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Saint Paul City Council hereby thanks Rose Ramey for her years of service to Goodwill-Easter Seals Minnesota, the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church and the community as a whole.
