Recognizing Flag Day in Saint Paul and encouraging the dignified disposal of American Flags.
Body
Whereas the American flag symbolizes the ideals of liberty, justice, and unity for all citizens of the United States; and
Whereas Flag Day commemorates the adoption of the flag of the United States on June 14, 1777, by resolution of the Second Continental Congress; and
Whereas the flag serves as a powerful emblem of the sacrifices made by generations of Americans to secure and protect the freedoms we hold dear; and
Whereas Flag Day provides an opportunity for citizens to reflect on the values of democracy, equality, and freedom that the flag represents; and
Whereas it is fitting and proper for the City of Saint Paul, Minnesota to honor the flag and the principles for which it stands; now, therefore, be it
Resolved that the Saint Paul City Council recognizes June 14, 2024, as Flag Day in the City of Saint Paul, and be it
Further resolved that residents are encouraged to display the flag of the United States and participate in activities commemorating Flag Day, and the City Council thanks the schools, community organizations, and residents who to observe Flag Day with ceremonies and educational programs; and be it
Finally resolved that when a flag is no longer fit for display, it should be disposed of in a dignified manner, and we encourage all to bring these flags to the following locations during the timeframe of June 12 - July 8, 2024 for collection by our Veteran and Military Employees Resource Network:
