Title

Authorizing the Department of Public Works to move $71,499 from unspent signing and lighting materials budget to accommodate a garage door replacement for the Traffic Building, located at 899 Dale Street.

Body

WHEREAS, the existing garage bi-fold doors are original to the building and are estimated to be approximately sixty (60) years old; and

WHEREAS, the existing door system has reached the end of its useful service life and continues to experience repeated mechanical, electrical, and structural component failures; and

WHEREAS, multiple service calls have been required over the past several years to maintain operation of the doors, with increasing difficulty obtaining replacement parts and repair services due to the age and obsolete nature of the equipment; and

WHEREAS, the current door system does not provide the capability for manual operation in the event of a power outage or electrical failure; and

WHEREAS, the existing doors do not contain modern safety features to prevent door closure when an object or obstruction is present, creating a potential safety concern; and

WHEREAS, continued repairs to the existing doors are no longer considered cost-effective or sustainable due to the deteriorated condition of the doors and operators; and

WHEREAS, replacement of the existing garage bi-fold doors and operators in kind is necessary to maintain safe and reliable operation of the facility; and

WHEREAS, the proposed replacement will be completed utilizing the same company that originally supplied the doors to ensure compatibility with the existing structure and operational requirements; now therefore via

ADMINISTRATIVE ORDER, consistent with the authority granted to the Mayor in Section 10.07.4 of the City Charter, and on the request of the Director of Public Works to amend the 2026 spending budget for the reallocation of funds within existing budgets. The Director of the Office of Financial Services is authorized to amend said budget in the manner specified in the attached financial analysis.
