Honoring and remembering the life and contributions of Tua Vang.

WHEREAS, Tua was born in Xieng Khouang, Laos to Chia Pao Vang and Soua Yang; and
WHEREAS Tua Vang immigrated to the City of St. Paul in 1980 with his wife Yang Yang and brother Ge Vang. Tua has been a St. Paul resident for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, Tua was a young soldier in the Special Guerilla Unit (SGU) during the Vietnam War from 1968-1975 and rose to the rank of S/LT. (Second Lieutenant)
WHEREAS, through the refugee resettlement program, Tua was able to learn English and attend St. Paul Tech College to receive his AA degree.
WHEREAS, Tua sponsored his deceased brother's family consisting of his widow and six children, connected them to St. Paul's social services, education, and economic resources; and
WHEREAS, Tua sponsored his sister's family to St. Paul, and connected them to St. Paul social services, education, and economic resources; and
WHEREAS, Tua sponsored his mother to St. Paul and loved and supported her until she passed in 2017; and
WHEREAS, sponsored his two nephews to St. Paul and connected them to St. Paul’s social services, education, and economic resource; and
WHEREAS, Tua supported and volunteered his time to the Vang Clan’s many activities including fundraising; and
WHEREAS, Tua, a member of the Lao Veterans of America, whose efforts were to recognize all Hmong soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War in Laos. Tua participated in the bus ride from MN to Washington DC in 1997 in witnessing the celebration of the Lao Veterans of America Monument. This Monument is a granite and bronze plaque, a living memorial, which included the planting of a cedar tree in the Arlington National Cemetery.
WHEREAS, Tua, a member of the Lao Veterans of America, made efforts to recognize all Hmong soldiers who fought in the Vietnam War. Tua participated in the bus ride from Minnesota to Washington DC in 1997, witnessing the celebration of the Lao Veterans of America Monument. This Monument, a living memorial in granite and bronze plaque, included the planting of a cedar tree. It is located in the Arlington National Cemetery.
WHEREAS, Tua a long-time dedicated member of the Hmong American Alliance Church in St. Paul; and
BE IT RESOLVED, The Saint Paul City Council honors and commemorates the life of Wang Tua Vang as a long-time resident of St. Paul and contributor to the Hmong community of St. Paul, member of Hmong American Alliance Church, supporter to the Vang Clan Council of MN, member of Lao Veterans of America, Inc.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, The Saint Paul Council proclaims May 10th as a day to remember Wang Tua Vang and his life contributions to St. Paul, its community and economy, his love for his family and extended family to sponsor them to St. Paul - all contributing to St. Paul’s economy, and efforts in recognizing all Hmong Veterans for their service in the Vietnam War as allies to the United States of America.
