Amending parking meter rates, time limits and zones.
Body
WHEREAS, under Chapter 152, City Council shall approve revisions to parking meter rates, time limits and parking meter zones by resolution; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works proposes to implement a new parking meter system in order to improve customer information, convenience, and ease of use, provide for additional types of payment, improve management of the system, and improve reliability; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works proposes to revise parking meter rates, time limits and parking meter zones in conjunction with implementation of new parking meter system as follows:
· That the parking meter rates for $1.75 per hour parking meters in the downtown area be increased to $2.00 per hour
· That the parking meter rates for $1.50 per hour parking meters in the downtown area and State Capitol area be increased to $1.75 per hour
· That the time limit for existing one hour meters be revised to a two hour time limit
· That the time limit for individual 30 minute meters be reviewed and revised to a two hour limit as determined by the Traffic Engineer
· That rush hour parking bans within the downtown parking meter zone be reviewed and revised as needed as determined by the Traffic Engineer
· That in areas of low parking meter occupancy, as determined by the Traffic Engineer, that time limits of 2 hour meters be increased to 4 hours or longer, with reduced parking meter rates be implemented to maximize utilization of parking meters, but still serve the needs of the downtown community
· That parking meters be added where appropriate within the current downtown parking meter zone as determined by the Traffic Engineer, and;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the recommended parking meter rate, time limit and parking meter zone revisions are hereby approved, and be it further
RESOLVED, that the new parking meter rates, time limits and parking meter zone revisions shall be implemented in 2012 in conjunction with new parking meter system implementation.
